Project Introduction
The project belongs to the field of crop breeding technology, specifically involving the innovative methods of cotton germplasm resources and the breeding and promotion of new varieties of high-yield, high-quality and stress-resistant hybrid cotton. The main research content won the first prize of Hubei Province Science and Technology Progress Award in 2004 and 2012 respectively, the second prize of Hubei Province Technology Invention Award in 2008 and the second prize of Natural Science Award for Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements in Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education in 2012.
Long-term adherence to cotton distant hybridization and cell engineering distant hybridization to enrich cotton germplasm resources; for the first time in the world to obtain regenerated plants from wild cotton cells such as Raymond cotton and Krautsky cotton, for the first time to regenerate plants from wild cotton protoplasts such as Krautsky cotton, for the first time to achieve symmetrical, partially asymmetrical, completely asymmetrical fusion of upland cotton and Krautsky cotton, Bick cotton, Davidson cotton and other wild cotton for the first time; the establishment of high-efficiency cotton transgenic technology system provides new methods and materials for resource innovation. Established a cotton basic research platform with important influence at home and abroad, established an efficient cotton molecular breeding technology system, provided genetic resources for the improvement of important agronomic traits such as cotton disease resistance, stress resistance, high quality and high yield, and provided a theoretical basis and innovative materials for the cultivation of new hybrid varieties of strong superior cotton. The relevant research papers were awarded 1 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation and 2 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation nominations.
The systematic evaluation of germplasm resources and the innovation of breeding techniques and methods were carried out, and the combination of regular breeding and modern biotechnology, selfing and hybridization was combined, aiming at the climate characteristics and disease occurrence law of cotton during the growth period in the Yangtze River Basin, new hybrid cotton varieties with strong advantages, high quality and multi-resistance, such as "Hua Zamian 1", "Hua Zamian 2", "Hua Hui 103", "Hua Zamian 4" and "Hua Zamian H318" (approved by the state), have been cultivated. Its strong advantages come from the large genetic differences and complementary parents, strong comprehensive stress resistance and strong boll-knot. In particular, "China Miscellaneous Cotton H318" performed well in the regional tests organized by the state. Its lint yield and lint yield before frost increased by 9.7 and 10.5 respectively compared with the control hybrid. All 8 points in the production test increased yield compared with the control, showing good stability. The variety is resistant to Fusarium wilt, Verticillium wilt, and highly resistant to cotton bollworm, with an insect-resistant strain rate of 100 per cent. At the same time, the variety of fiber quality, fiber length 30.3mm, breaking strength 31cN/tex, micronaire value 4.9. This variety coordinates the relationship between high yield, disease resistance, insect resistance and high-quality fiber. Among the five national varieties approved in the Yangtze River Basin in 2009, the comprehensive index of "Huazamian H318" ranked first. Due to its outstanding performance of comprehensive traits, it is rapidly popularized in production. In the creation of high-yield cotton in Hubei Province, the number of bolls per mu exceeded 80000 for two consecutive years, and won the title of "superior variety of high-yield cotton demonstration film. An expert group composed of Yu Shuxun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, conducted an on-site investigation and found that "China Miscellaneous Cotton H318" has the same characteristics, neat growth, stable growth of cotton plants, and strong resistance to stress. This variety has early maturity and no premature aging, strong and many bolling properties, fast peach topping, uniform bolling in upper, middle and lower parts, good yield and great potential for yield increase. Smooth, easy harvesting, easy harvest, high grade ". This achievement matched the good varieties and good methods, and established a simplified and effective cultivation mode of "delaying the sowing time, increasing the planting density, concentrating on fertilization and moving the nitrogen fertilizer back", which ensured the realization of the high yield of varieties and the succession of crops such as wheat and rape, and promoted the transformation of hybrid production mode. In the promotion of achievements, a new mode of cooperation between teaching and scientific research units and enterprises has been established, which has achieved a win-win situation for cotton production, scientific research and enterprises. The DNA fingerprint identification of parents and hybrids, the standardization of seed production operations, and the production services of enterprises are the key points, which effectively realize the rapid transformation of the results.
This achievement is formed on the basis of the team's 20-year scientific research accumulation according to the cotton production demand. Through the close combination of upstream, middle and downstream research and achievement promotion, a large number of new cotton germplasm resources have been created. 84 Chinese research papers and 63 SCI papers have been published. The number of citations by others has reached 1748 and 5 patents have been obtained. Five new hybrid cotton varieties have been cultivated, and more than 1200 million mu have been popularized and applied in various provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Basin, with remarkable economic and social benefits.
