Agricultural professional and technical personnel knowledge update training focus on food production and food security

Food security has always been a major strategic issue related to China's national economy and people's livelihood. General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that "the rice bowls of the Chinese people should be firmly in their own hands at all times. Our rice bowls should be mainly filled with Chinese food". In 2014, the Central Document No. 1 proposed to build a national food security strategy under the new situation. The government work report also emphasizes that it is necessary to promote agricultural modernization with the core of ensuring national food security and promoting farmers' income.

In order to deeply understand the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's series of speeches and fully implement the spirit of the central document, in accordance with the deployment of the 2014 Work Plan of the General Office of the Ministry of Agriculture on the Use of Distance Education Platform to Carry out Knowledge Updating and Training of Agricultural Professional and Technical Personnel (Nongban People [2014] No. 21), deepen the understanding of the majority of agricultural professional and technical personnel and agricultural management cadres on the issue of food production and food security, sponsored by the Department of Personnel and Labor of the Ministry of Agriculture and undertaken by the Central Agricultural Radio and Television School, the second phase of remote training on knowledge updating for agricultural professional and technical personnel was held in Beijing. This training focused on food production and food security. The training was personally taught by Zeng Yande, Director of the Planting Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture. The theme was "Do not relax and do a good job in food production and make every effort to ensure national food security". The overall arrangements and key measures for the development of grain production this year were analyzed and authoritative. Tian Guishan, vice president of the Central Agricultural Broadcasting School, presided over this training.

The training was broadcast live through the national agricultural distance education platform of the Central Agricultural Broadcasting School. According to incomplete statistics, nearly 20000 people from all over the country participated in the training through satellite networks and the Internet. The training has been fully affirmed and generally welcomed by the trainees of agricultural administrative departments, institutions, and scientific research institutes in various regions. Everyone agreed that the training has strengthened the understanding of food security issues, and has a deeper understanding of the relevant policies and spirit of the central government. Understanding is very helpful to guide practical work.
